OUR 4th Wedding Anniversary - Sabatini Ristorante Italiano

Last minute change to Sabatini to celebrate our 4th anniversary. The reservation lady told us over the phone that table only avail after 930 which is fine with us as we were not so hungry. Improvement area: During our phone reservation, the lady asked to put me on hold for 5 minutes, which rarely happen for a hotel. -.-'
When we arrive, restaurant is indeed very packed. We arrived at 915, but only got our table 9:35.
Due to white truffle promotion, the usual tasting menu is unavailable. (abit disappointed)
So we order the white truffle on risotto. This italian truffle smell incredible.
The waiters served our table are smart and attentive.

川龍端記茶樓 @ Tsuen Wan

Woke up before 6am from jetlag. HE wanted to sleep more, but gave up this idea immediately when SHE suggested yumcha @ Chuen Lung

HE was disappointed when Por Por not selling him the Watercress, and kept saying HE saw she has a tiny bit in the basket. HE said HE wanted to walk down to check out, of cause HIS motive is to buy watercress. Quite peaceful and pretty environment with bunch of green fields and mini river. Saw another 2 couples also buying watercress before us. The gentleman volunteered to pick up all the bags for us. He reached to the farm lady by walking down the mini bridge.

Chena Hot Springs Resort - Restaurant & Cafe

1.5 hours drive from downtown to Chena Hot Spring so WE decided to just eat all OUR meals in the only one restaurant in Chena. Price is just similar to other restaurant out there, and food was fine, so not much WE want to complain about. WE had some great meals with OUR friends there.

Cannot make reservation there, so better to go earlier or have a late dinner.

WE would go to the Aurora cafe to hang out with friends after dinner. To have coffee and Haagen Dazs ice cream there.

Didn't take picture of the Tomato Soup but it's so GOOD! Daily soup changes every other day. So SHE couldn't order the next day :(

Mushing Dog Tutorial - Just Short of Magic

Eleanor, ex science school teacher, is a great instructor. She is nice, patient, informative and loves to share.

She gave us briefing about our session, all about the dogs, and the Yurt (an Mongolian tant) that she used to live for 4 yrs. She moved out from the yurt to house just August, and it's now available for 100USD per night. WE would think that it's quite an experience. She showed us the sleds - the taller one is for racing, the two at the back are for normal use. The taller one is also good when snow is too deep. We went thru about what the dogs eat in summer (lower fat and protein) and winter (higher fat and protein) due to the different exercise level. In winter, Eleanor would buy a big chunk of frozen minced meat which are a mixture of Beef, cow liver, moose, salmon, etc. She needs to use an axe to split them up and mix with hot water to feed them. So one of the four requirement the trainer would be look for from the dogs is they have to have good appetite. That is to ensure they stay healthy and have the energy.  Also, they have to stay focus and eat quick, otherwise the food will get frozen. They don't drink water, they only drink bait water (water mix with dog food).

Aurora Borealis Lodge

Sophie hotel gave us a ride to airport to pick up the 4WD SUV car. WE dropped by Fred Meyers and Safeway to pick up OUR food for the next few days to prepare for Our stay at Aurora Borealis Lodge. We were really excited not only because this is named as the best place to view Aurora, but also that it was completely built by the owners themselves .

Mok greeted us at his door and led us to his main building. It is a common area for the guests of the lodge, a place he host the aurora viewing tour at night, and also the building where his family & partner live at. Hot drinks & cookies are always available.

Mok is a very nice guy and helpful. He brought us to our room. Slowly walk us thru the facilities of our room, and amazed us even more is he actually already wrote it clearly on the document folder he left on the table. He also gave us a brief explanation and tips of how to take pictures of aurora. WE like how he has the walkie-talkie to alert us if there is any aurora and also guests can ring thru walkie-talkie to inform others when they see aurora too (helping each other out). The other walkie-talkie is for emergency communication.

unforgettable

Alaska Railway

WE walked from Anchorage Grand Hotel to the station within 5 minutes. The train departs at 8:15am but WE want to request a better seats so we wanted to reach to the station early. It was a long trip, WE arrived Fairbanks at 830pm, but if WE were to choose again, WE would still want to take the train. It would have been better if it's not winter time, otherwise WE could ride the train with the Dome Car.
waited so long for these two shots

Simon Seafort's Saloon & Grill

SHE made the last minute reservation online as tripadvisor said that it's constantly busy and always packed. Service was poor. Waitress totally forgot about serving us bread, and when WE asked she didn't apologize for her mistake and with a "not care" attitude. Food was fine, but price was abit high for the service and decoration.

Anchorage Alaska Scenic Drive

Initially WE wanted to sign up for a helicopter tour to land on glacier, but since there were no guarantee and could end up land on a mountain, SHE decided to drop the idea as landing glacier is the primary reason that SHE would pay for the tour.

With that one extra free day, WE took the advice from Alaska.Org website and drive down to Girdwood via the one of the most famous route - Seward Highway. If WE have more time, or if it was Spring or Summer WE could have drive down to Seward. It's totally worth it.

Sophie Station

WE took railway from Anchorage to Fairbanks arrived around 830pm. Phone was available in Railway Station to call the hotels. Sophie station sent its Shuttle Bus to pick up us from the railway station in about 15-20minutes.

We enjoyed our stay in Sophie Station. It has a full kitchen and only 8-10mins walk to the Fred Meyer and Safeway Supermarket on the Airport Way, so you can actually cook your meal there.

Bathroom is clean and have everything you need, except Toothpaste and toothbrush which is expected in North America. Washroom basin is in front of a big mirror, and separated from the toilet and shower enclosure, which is great so WE do not have to fight for the bathroom.

Snow City Cafe @ Alaska, Anchorage

Found this popular cafe from tripadvisor nearby our hotel located in downtown. \
